The Sand Creek Massacre was a slaughter of Cheyenne and Arapahoe Native Americans on November 29,1864 in Colorado. Named after this catastrophic historical event, Sand Creek was founded by guitarist Dustin Hinkson in August 2002.
With Dustin Hinkson and drummer Casey Wright practicing on songs for four months, they were also searching for other members to complete the band. After trying out a few vocalists, they found Jeremy through www.musicmates.com. Just a few auditions later, Dustin and Casey knew they had a frontman.
After creating complete songs and playing a party or two, the three were still in search of the final piece of the band: the bass player. A bunch of bullshit emails and no-shows would persist until a young lad by the name of Drew Leckman came over and got into the band on his first audition due to a very impressive display of bass playing.
With the lineup complete, the band was ready to begin playing shows. Their friends in 4:21 gave them that opportunity in May of '03 to play with them at the Boiler Room.
Just as the band was starting to gain momentum and plan on playing more shows, commitment as well as internal problems grew within the band and soon after Casey was let go.
With the breakup of 4:21 enters Mike Owens, Sand Creek's new drummer. Throughout the summer the band practiced and tightened their sound and were ready to go in Nov. '03.
Several gigs and a demo later, Sand Creek is currently working on new material and ready to start gigging like crazy this fall.
Hopefully, there will be more to this story................
